Die Attraktivität der PTS-Veranstaltung wird vor allem an der Qualität der Vorträge gemessen. Um diese noch weiter zu erhöhen, wurde seitens der Papiertechnischen Stiftung (PTS) Unterstützung aus Industrie und Forschung eingeholt, um bei der Auswahl der Referate dem Bedarf der Teilnehmer Rechnung zu tragen. Seitens der FMP TECHNOLOGY GMBH wird Herr Prof. Dr. Dr. F. Durst über folgende Thematik referieren:

Changes and Limitations of Curtain Coating: There are various methods of coating available and many of them permit high coating velocities to be achieved. In spite of this, the curtain coating is presently being considered to have advantages with respect to high speed paper coating. The reasons for this preference are explained in the paper. The various coating methods are briefly touched and it is explained that they can nowadays be treated theoretically to yield their so-called “coating window”. The slot coater, operating in its bead mode, is taken as an example to explain that high velocities can only be obtained with this coating method by increasing the coating layer thickness. Hence, increasing speeds are connected to increasing requirements for drying power. It is pointed out that curtain coaters permit high coating speeds to be reached for thin coating layers and, hence, are practically achievable for lower drying powers.
